Speakers:
Colleen is a Registered Occupational Therapist with training and expertise in life care planning. She received an Honours Bachelor of Kinesiology and a Minor in Psychology in 2004 from McMaster University, and obtained her Master of Science in Occupational Therapy from the University of Toronto in 2006. She most recently completed the Life Care Planning Pre-certification Program through the University of Florida in 2015.
Colleen has practiced in a variety of clinical settings, including in-home and in-school treatment for pediatric clients, an outpatient Multiple Sclerosis clinic providing services for seating and mobility, augmentative and alternative communication, and electronic aids to daily living, and in the auto insurance sector providing assessment and treatment for individuals with acquired brain injuries, complex orthopaedic conditions, mental health issues, and chronic pain. She currently works at Carol Bierbrier & Associates where she specializes in the preparation of life care plans, in-home occupational therapy assessments, attendant care needs assessments and loss of services analyses. Colleen gained experience with mindfulness practices while working as a Secondary Investigator on a research project involving a goal management training program and a brain health program for individuals with Multiple Sclerosis. She carried this knowledge into her practice in providing treatment to individuals with acquired brain injury, and is excited to share her knowledge and love of tea with you at BIST’s mindfulness workshop!
Through her speaking, writing, workshops and online programs, Celia is inspiring women to make themselves a priority in their day, practice self care on the daily and to create the life they want to be living.
Celia lives in Toronto, Ontario with her two Yorkie furbabies, Dolce and Gabbana. When she is not writing, she is living life to the fullest and volunteering in her community. As a Peer Mentor with BIST Celia is helping other women navigate the world of living and thriving after brain injury. She’s a regular contributing-writer to the BIST blog ; has been a Board Member since 2015 and in 2017 became a member of the Brian Injury Awareness Month Committee.

Since 2004 Jaisa Sulit practised as a neuro-rehab occupational therapist in Ontario until 2010 when a motorcycle accident left her with a spinal cord injury (SCI). As a therapist turned patient Jaisa participated in a Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) program that not only enriched her recovery but also helped her to cope with chronic pain, stress, anxiety and depression.
Jaisa has since become a qualified MBSR teacher through the Center for Mindfulness at the University of Massachusetts Medical School and teaches mindfulness to patients, students and clinicians across Canada.
In 2015 Jaisa moved to Vancouver to explore the effects of bringing her SCI rehabilitation into the natural environment. Having found benefit from doing medical qigong outdoors in direct connection land and water Jaisa went on to become a certified practitioner in Medical Qigong and Chinese Shamanic Medicine.
Since sustaining an SCI Jaisa has become a published poet, an international keynote speaker and an author whose journey of healing the body, soul and spirit is published in her book “Purpose in Paralysis: From Chronic Pain to Universal Gain.”
Jaisa is now living back in Toronto where she continues her work as a holistic occupational therapist.
