TOPIC: Navigating Recovery

Presenter: Nazeeg Haneshian of @invisiblescar & @nazelie.designs on Instagram

In this workshop we will navigate the darkness that comes with a concussion/ brain injury and translate the challenges to learnings, and what we have learned along the way. Losses turn into learnings, challenges make us stronger, overcoming obstacles build our character. Together, we will build a bracelet and list all the things we are grateful for along the way. Every bead will serve as a reminder for just how far we have come.

Please register at least 2 weeks in advance in order to receive your materials by mail.

Nazeeg - Beading Workshop - Post 1-3

Nazeeg Haneshian was born and raised in Cambridge, Ontario.

An invisible scar is something that Nazeeg knows far too well.

In July of 2012, Nazeeg travelled abroad for a month-long volunteer trip.  What was supposed to be a cultural and charitable experience with local children, turned out to be a life-changing few weeks. But, not for the reasons she expected.  Nazeeg fainted, hit her head on a corner of a marble slab, on the second night of her trip.  As a result of her accident, she was forced to put everything on hold – her last year of undergrad, work and volunteering – and go on strict bed rest for the coming months.

In fact, most of her twenties she dealt with ongoing pain. Following a serious concussion injury, she spent more than six years of waking up and falling asleep with throbbing headaches and many other symptoms including dizziness, brain fog, light and noise sensitivity. It was painful both physically and emotionally.

Through the journey with her invisible scar, her concussion, Nazeeg graduated with a Bachelor of Honours Economics and Business Administration with a minor in French from Wilfrid Laurier University. Nazeeg resides in Toronto, working in Corporate Strategy for a multinational corporation and continues to grow her jewellery business “Nazelie Designs”, which she started at the young age of 12. Currently, she is pursuing her MBA at Rotman, University of Toronto specializing in Healthcare Management and Consulting.

Today, the creator of @invisiblescar is symptom free and shares her story, to inspire others and give hope for recovery. It gets better!”
